Targeted Lung Health Check March 2021

Newcastle Gateshead CCG is part of a national pilot to check patient’s lung health. It is starting at Walker Medical Group.

Who. It is for patients aged 55 to 75 years old who have ever smoked. That is are current smokers of tabaco, or anybody who was smoked more than 10 cigarettes in their life.

What. Patients will be contacted by letter to arrange a telephone appointment with a nurse. The nurse will ask questions about your health. Some patients (expected to be just over half of the patients) will then be offered further investigations – CT scan of their chest. This will take place in a mobile scanner parked in the car park of Benefield surgery.

When. Letters and texts will start arriving in the next few weeks, starting from second week in March.
